The Governor's 2007 Education Plan

*Make anyone under the age of 19 with parents who make less than $60,000 per year eligible for public health care.

*Increase the high school math requirement from two years to four.

*Require every eighth-grader to learn algebra.

*Get results from the AIMS test to students and parents quicker so they can correct deficiencies.

*Raise the eligible dropout age from 16 to 18.

*Increase starting teacher pay to $33,000 a year and provide incentives to retain teachers.

*Provide more money for college student aid.

*Provide money to lure and keep better college teachers.

*Create a "college of construction" to educate the next generation of construction managers.
